Stories can heal. Let’s read, reflect, and re-author your journey together.
Join our Therapeutic Book Club – a monthly online group using the power of bibliotherapy and narrative therapy to support your mental health and wellbeing.
What is Bibliotherapy?
Bibliotherapy is the intentional use of reading and discussion to support emotional and psychological growth. By engaging with carefully selected books, participants explore relatable themes, gain new perspectives, and make meaning of their own experiences through the lens of story.
In our groups, books become mirrors, windows, and doorways – helping you feel seen, understood, and empowered to make change.
Group Bibliotherapy vs Traditional Individual Therapy
The DHW Therapeutic Book Club offers a gentle, accessible entry point into the world of therapy – and a powerful complement for those already engaged in individual sessions. For many, starting therapy can feel overwhelming or unfamiliar. Bibliotherapy provides a welcoming space to explore therapeutic themes through the shared experience of reading and group reflection, helping participants build insight, emotional literacy, and trust in the therapeutic process.
Through carefully selected books and a narrative therapy framework, members are invited to engage with stories that echo their own challenges, values, and strengths. This process often sparks moments of clarity and connection that naturally lead into deeper personal work, either within the group or in one-on-one therapy.
For those already in individual therapy, the book club serves as a meaningful adjunct – offering new language, metaphors, and perspectives that can be brought into personal sessions. The sense of community can also reduce isolation, affirming that healing doesn’t have to happen alone.
Whether you're curious about therapy or seeking to enrich your current journey, the Therapeutic Book Club creates space for reflection, insight, and healing – all through the simple yet profound act of reading together.
What is Narrative Therapy?
Narrative therapy is a collaborative, strengths-based approach that views people as separate from their problems. It helps individuals explore the stories they tell about themselves, uncovering how experiences, culture, and language shape identity. By externalising problems and re-authoring their narratives, people can reconnect with their values, strengths, and preferred ways of being.
This approach pairs beautifully with bibliotherapy, where literature becomes a mirror for self-reflection. Through stories, readers can explore alternative perspectives, resonate with characters’ journeys, and find new meaning in their own lives. Together, narrative therapy and bibliotherapy create a rich, empowering space for healing and transformation.
