All our Psychologists are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency and the Psychology Board of Australia, which ensures they have met high standards in education, training, supervised practice, ethical and professional standards, and ongoing professional development.

What is a Provisional Psychologist?

A Psychologist with provisional registration is someone who has completed their tertiary qualifications (study, placements & research) and is undertaking a final one or two years of ‘on the job’ supervised practice.

After these years of supervised practice, they are eligible to apply for their general Psychologist registration. Whilst they are registered with AHPRA, they can’t provide rebates for Medicare or Private Health Funds. This means you won’t require a mental health care plan or GP referral. Because of this we are offering their services at a significantly reduced rate. You essentially get the benefit of working with the provisional psychologist with the input of at least two senior psychologists and no limit to the number of sessions you can access!

All of our Provisionally Registered Psychologists are highly qualified, skilled, and knowledgeable in all aspects of the services they provide. Psychologists with provisional registration are doing the same things a fully registered psychologist would be doing in their client work.

Being under supervision means that they are able to discuss their assessments and therapy implementation with a supervisor who is an even more experienced peer in the field of psychology.

When it comes down to the mental health and wellbeing of yourself or a loved one, it’s understandable to want the best. In recognition of that and with an understanding of the importance of best practice in therapy, we are uncompromisingly dedicated to ensuring the very highest quality of therapy and support is provided by each and every one of our clinicians for every one of our clients.

What is a Registered Psychologist?

Psychologists with general registration (over 60% of Australia’s psychologists) have a minimum of six years of university training and supervised experience, and build on that with ongoing education.

Psychologists with general registration can work in any number of settings and assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of clients and areas of concern. They use evidence-based psychological approaches customised to suit each individual, setting, issue or challenge.

Generally, the Board of Psychology requires a person seeking registration as a Psychologist to have completed four years of University study, usually at Honours level plus 2 years of supervised practice.

Psychologists in Australia are then required to maintain their registration status by maintaining a regular course of professional development and supervision (whereby a qualified senior Psychologist works with the Psychologist to assess, discuss and enhance their clinical work). Working Psychologists are also required to maintain professional indemnity insurance.

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

In addition to being a Registered Psychologist, some Psychologists go on to further training after their four year degree to complete a Masters (or Doctorate) Degree in Clinical Psychology. During their course of additional study they engage in an further 2 years of supervised clinical practice, often with rather complex and high severity mental health presentations.

Clinical Psychologists are also required to engage in scholarly research during their additional study which is then reviewed by external experts and/or specialists to ensure that the research conducted it rigorous and evidence-based.

After the completion of the aforementioned period of study and supervised practice, Clinical Psychologists are required to complete another 1 to 2 years of supervised clinical practice as a Clinical Psychology Registrar and demonstrate high level competency across a range of complex and high severity mental health presentation. Once this process has been completed they can then seek registration as a Clinical Psychologist in Australia.
