Helen's journey into counselling is guided by a deep commitment to supporting people in a meaningful and holistic way. This passion led her to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and brought her to Dune Health and Wellbeing for her student placement.
Helen holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and has spent many years working across diverse settings. Her experience includes supporting individuals in hospital and community environments, working with asylum seekers, and assisting university students. She has also taught welfare and communication subjects at both TAFE and university levels.
Helen provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their challenges, strengths, and goals. Her approach is to walk alongside each person as they navigate life’s difficulties, helping them uncover inner resources and work towards the life they want to live.
Helen draws on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Her style is warm, grounded, and pragmatic, and she tailors her work to meet each client’s unique needs and circumstances.
Helen has extensive experience supporting adults of all ages, with a particular focus on young adults aged 17 and over, especially those navigating university life. She has developed a strong interest in working with neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with ADHD. Helen is also experienced in conducting risk assessments, recognising early signs of psychosis, and addressing family concerns.
Her goal is to meet clients where they are and work collaboratively to ensure they feel empowered, understood, and supported on their journey.
