Counsellors use talk therapy to help you manage general emotional unrest or acute trauma or illness. They treat everything from daily overwhelm to grief to specific mental disorders like depression or anxiety. Sometimes, talk therapy is used in combination with medications or lifestyle changes. However, not all psychotherapists are licensed to prescribe medication.
Counsellors use talk therapy to help you live a better, healthier life. Counselling have been shown to improve emotions and behaviour and to go along with positive changes in the body and brain.
The counsellor's role in therapy is to:
Help you consider solutions for your problem
Engage in a discussion about it
Help you understand what you’re going through
Analyse your conversation
Help you change your actions
Our counsellors have special training in psychology and counselling. They have completed extensive and multiple postgraduate studies to become practising therapists. They are members of several regulatory agencies that govern the practice of counselling in Australia. Our therapists are subject to the standards set out by the Australian Registry of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, an independent, national register of qualified counsellors in Australia. All practitioners listed on the ARCAP Register have completed professional qualifications in counselling, meet ongoing professional development requirements, and abide by the profession's ethical guidelines.
Our counsellors must maintain their registration status by maintaining a regular course of professional development and supervision. Our psychotherapists and counsellors are also required to maintain professional indemnity insurance.
